I was devastated to learn of the passing of my childhood friend since the age of three, Barr Chittick. We attended kindergarten, junior high, and high school together. When we were not schoolmates my family would visit the Chitticks, and Barr, Tom, and I would go to Barrs room, turn off the lights, and wrestle for hours. Barr and I were very good friends. We were confirmed together, double-dated together, and painted houses together. I was with Barr when he first met Trudy (I believe Barr would say the greatest moment of his life), and stood with Barr and Trudy at their wedding.
Many memories come to mind so I will only share a few. When we were three, Barr gave Tom and I the coolest metal army truck (he received two for Christmas). In trade, Barr got a plastic dump truck. Although ripped completely, Barr said he was pleased to make his two friends happy. When we were five we rode with the preacher to kindergarten. Barr taught me to whistle. Barr was always such a great musician. Barr was so giving and kind. His light burned bright and I will miss its warmth.
From an early age we grew into brothers, and never once in all those years did Barr make me mad or hurt me. (Maybe we were better than brothers). Time went by and we talked less frequent but always had an unbroken bond. Just last August during a phone call we recounted how even though Barr, my twin brother Tom, and myself were from Clevelands rough east side we grew up to became a pastor, physician, and professor. I told him that they were right, the ones who said we would never amount to much, and we just started laughing like we did when we were young. I love you Barr, I said. Barr said, I love you too, Teddy. I will always remember those last words because with those words I knew we had been friends, brothers, and better for a blessed 60 years.
I know Barr is in Heaven because when we were young we spoke of God and salvation. Barr will be happy to know that in heaven the Browns win the Super Bowl every other year as they did when we were growing up in Cleveland. Say hello to Trudy for me and rest in peace dear friend. It is yours by suffering and grace. A grace we gloried in together, which made our friendship so special, when we were young. My greatest condolences to Barrs family. May God grant you peace and shed his grace upon you.

Pastor Chittick was a man that my family grew to know, respect, love, and look forward to hearing as he preached his sermons on Sunday. He influence my children in a way no other pastor has.We truly respected him and loved him because he preached God's word in a way that made God and his love very real,a love and forgiveness that was always present and always motivating, reassuring. We feel blessed that Pastor Chittick entered our lives and know that we can look forward to seeing him in heaven. May God give his family peace knowing that he now lives in heaven. We shall remember him always.

When I remember my Pastor Chittick, I think of his quote, "Prayer isn't the only thing we can do. It is the best thing we can do." He was a special Man of God and touched my life with love and gentleness. My prayers are going up before the Throne Room of God for his loved ones.

Dear Josh, Aaron, Gavin and families. we are shocked and terribly saddened to learn of your Dad's sudden passing. We often talk about the old days when you were in Florida and we had the band your Dad founded, "Faith Alone" playing for the new Saturday night church services at Faith Lutheran. Those are fond memories of those times and of all of you as well. We pray and know that God will give you the strength you need to get through this dark period, and that one day you will all be home together again with your Mom and Dad and Jesus.
With our deepest sympathies and heartfelt love,
Rudi, April, Evan and my Mom, Barbara Ross
