Joseph (Billy) William Boyd, 67 of Cortez, CO, passed away January 3, 2017 at Southwest Memorial Hospital.
Billy was born August 30, 1949 in Leadville, CO. He was the fourth child of Homer (Buster) Boyd and Georgia (McElhaney) Boyd. The family returned to Cortez, CO in the early 1950's. Billy attended school in Cortez.
In August of 1969, Billy was drafted into the U.S. Army where he worked in Transportation. On February 17, 1970 while Billy was on leave he married his first wife Shirley Dennison. Billy was honorably discharged from the Army on March 30, 1971. On May 5, 1972, Billy and Shirley welcomed their son Corey (Boyd) Jackson. After a few years they divorced.
During the 1980's Billy moved to Las Vegas, NV. During this time he worked different jobs but worked mostly as a truck driver. It was in Las Vegas that Billy met and married his second wife Donna Lee. In the early 2000's Billy and Donna moved to Kiowa, CO. They lived there until Donna's passing in October 2002.
Shortly after Donna passed Billy moved to Rifle, CO for a short time before returning back to Kiowa. It was then that he met his third wife Jackie Gullam. They resided together in Commerce City, CO until her passing in 2015. At this time he moved back to Cortez where he resided until his death.
Billy is survived by his stepson Brian Jackson of Dallas, TX; sisters Mary Skidmore (Johnny) of Cortez and Loreen Ball (Norman) of Grand Junction, CO; nieces Tammy Barnett (Willie) of Kannapolis, NC; Terry Adamson (Walt) of Cortez; and Fawn Kendrick-Clark (Kevin) of Cortez; nephew Christopher Proffitt (Leigh) of Indiana; 2 step-grandsons and 1 step-great-granddaughter; and first wife Shirley Dennison.
Billy is preceded in death by his son Corey (Boyd) Jackson; wives Donna Lee and Jackie Gullam; brothers Donnie Hugh Boyd and Kenneth Paul Boyd; sister Katherine Louise (Boyd) Brook; parents Homer (Buster) Boyd and Georgia (McElhaney) Boyd; and nephews Donnie Mathews and Jeffery Scott Heird.
There will be a graveside service for friends and family at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Cortez Cemetery. A small reception will follow at the Baptist Chapel on Dolores Hwy.
