My first memory of Betty is when this 17 year old girl came to look at some very beautiful peaches, and exclaimed, "Oh Mother I think I would like to try canning some!" I asked, "Momma, who was that woman that called you 'Mother'?" Her answer was, "Don't you remember Betty?"
I sure remembered her after that! She was the most caring sister one could ever have! I so enjoyed my visits in Cortez, and then when they moved to the McElmo Canyon. It was a highlight when they would come to visit. I loved to play with the boys, and then there was that adorable little sister!
Betty would put her duties aside to see that I was having a good time. She would take us fishing, share a picnic in the high meadows near Dunton. cook the most delicious light rolls. Take my family for a boat ride on Lade Powell. Always remembered my birthday! Loved to sew a new shirt for me, or make dresses for Momma.
When they moved to California she stored things in the Homestead Cabin. When she returned, and started going through things she said, "You know I haven't needed these things for the last two years while we were in California--I don't see any sense in keeping them for years in the future to clutter up my place!" To the dump they went. Betty was always a wonderful house keeper.
She was a very special sister!
