Barbara Joann (Bobby Jo) Shepperd Vedsted died October 30, 2017, very peacefully at home. Bobby Jo was born December 28, 1934 to Sidney Everett Shepperd and Beulah Faye Uptain in Lewis, CO. She lived in Lewis with her parents and sister, Donna Lorraine Shepperd Hare. Bobby Jo grew up with lots of family and friends riding horses and going to school. She graduated high school from Cortez and went to Roswell, NM where she went to business school and worked at the 1st National Bank. She moved back to Cortez in 1958 and met Robert Lee Vedsted, Sr. They dated until 1962 and married. They moved to Commerce City where Bob finished school and Celia Dawn Vedsted was born. They moved to Grand Junction in 1964 and lived in a trailer park on Orchard Mesa. Robert Lee Vedsted, Jr. and Diann Kay Vedsted were born before Jo and Bob moved to Clifton on a short 20 acre farm in 1967. They built a new house and Bobby Jo remained there for the rest of her life. She was known as "Bobby Jo" to the family where she was raised, "Jo" to Bob, and "Barbara" to everyone else. She started and owned Clifton Tax Service since 1985 and was a bookkeeper and tax preparer for close to 50 years. In between running her business and being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and foster parent, she made quilts for friends and family, was a 4-H leader, gardened, played cards, camped, loved Willie Nelson, dancing, word searches and gambling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Vedsted, Sr. in 1996; daughter, Sondra Jo Vedsted in 1970; father, Sidney Everett Shepperd in 1988; mother, Beulah Faye Shepperd in 2013; sister, Donna Lorraine Shepperd Hare in 2012. A memorial service will take place on November 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran. Contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran and Clifton Fire Department.
