Catherine (Artz) Walters Obituary
Catherine passed away on December 19, 2017 with family and friends at her side after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Hoquiam, Washington July 14, 1928, but spent most of her young life in southwest Colorado including Mancos, Dolores, and McPhee. Determined to work her way out of poverty, Catherine attended the University of New Mexico and was the first woman to graduate with a civil engineering degree. Later she met a Forest Service Ranger and married Warren Walters in Mancos. Catherine later moved to Denver and then to Walnut Creek in 1967. She raised two sons and later worked at the City of Walnut Creek as Assistant and Associate Civil Engineer. Catherine was an early member of NOW (National Organization for Women) and supported women's rights. She enjoyed horse riding, pet rabbits, Sudoku puzzles, Kindle tablets (many of them), her exercise classes 6 days a week, senior trips, and classical music. Catherine carried herself with grace, and was consistent and persistent.

Catherine is survived by her sons Paul and Bruce, daughters in-law Lynn & Linda, granddaughters Ashley and Richlyn, grandson-in-law Matt, and great-grandsons Brayden and Nathan.

A Celebration of Life for Catherine Walters will take place in Walnut Creek, California. In-lieu of flowers please donate to the Lesher Center for the Arts.
