Erneta Marie Johanna Blum Roark, 98, of Aztec, NM passed away 3/1/2018 in Aztec. She was born 10/9/1919 in Rushville, NE to Ernest and Mary (Heesacker) Blum. Erneta graduated from Hay Springs High School in Hay Springs, NE. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator at Fort Robinson, Crawford, NE. It was here that she met Robert Roark. When he was transferred to Tacoma, WA, Ernesta went there and they were married October 21, 1944. Erneta moved back to Hay Springs and worked at a doctor's office while Bob finished his military duty. When Bob returned to Hay Springs they bought and operated the Dairy King. During her lifetime she owned several businesses with Bob including Culligan soft water in Cortez, CO and Akron Variety Store in Akron, CO.
Erneta was active in the Alter Society in Akron; Catholic Daughters in Cortez; VFW in which she held numerous offices; and the Democratic Party of CO. Ernesta was the first woman voted on to the City Council of Akron. She liked to crochet and play cards and bingo.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cortez with burial at Cortez, Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Diabetes Association and/or the VFW. Arrangements being handled by Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache St., Farmington, NM. [email protected]

Erneta was a first class act. I will always remember how she and her late husband Bob made me feel so welcomed when I registered as a parishioner at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez, CO. May you rest in peace lovely lady.
