Judith Anne Walter passed away on September 8, 2017 at the age of 78. She is joining the love of her life of 61 years, Richard Emery Walter.
Born and raised in Dearborn Michigan, daughter of Howard and Blanche Gass. Judy made her home Colorado in 1956 as a newlywed, first living in Hesperus, then Durango, and settling in Dolores with Richard and their two children in 1967.
Judy is lovingly remembered by her children Mark Walter and Tracey Hately and families; siblings Patricia Johnson-Stull, Linda Olson-Szydelko, and Howard "Jack" Gass and families. Judy is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, daughter Teri Sue, and parents.
In her early years, Judy had a heart for cooking and canning with Granny. Judy was a devoted and loving mother. She frequently traveled with her children to visit Richard when he was working on the road. She also was a Girl Scout leader and active in Parent Teacher Association in addition to traveling with school sports and chaperoning many youth events. In 1985 Judy joined High Country Optical and served as an eye stylist for 17 years before retiring in 2002.
Judy had a passion for sewing. She was a remarkable seamstress, creating not only fashionable attire but home decor and creative knick-knacks. Judy enjoyed her time outdoors riding ATV's, boating, fishing and hunting alongside her husband and dearest family and friends. Judy was a hummingbird enthusiast, strategically placing hummingbird feeders around the yard and planting her favorite gladiolas for both of them to enjoy.
A grave side service will be held early next spring to celebrate Judy's life.
