Beloved wife of Ray, devoted mother of Scott (Janice) and Mark (Lori), and doting grandmother of Nicole, Rachel, Allison, Quentin and Kamryn, passed away December 14th, 2016, after a long battle with PSP, a degenerative neurological condition. She slowly lost her ability to write and speak making communication difficult, but she suffered this with the grace and dignity that were characteristic of her personality. Doctors, nurses, and caregivers were always amazed at her strength in the face of this terrible condition, and always noted her sweetness and sense of humor.
Sarah was born and raised in the Cortez area, youngest daughter of Al and Alice Lancaster. She met her husband Ray at Mesa Verde where they were both employed by the National Park Service. In accordance with her wishes no memorial services are planned. Her ashes will join those of Ray. Sarah is survived by her children, grandchildren, sisters Mary and Judy, and brother John.

Sarah was such a treasure. Smart and funny. I enjoyed her friendship at the Record Searchlight. Sarah had many wonderful stories of Scott and Mark when they were little boys. All the reporters in the newsroom cherished Sarah.
I am so sorry for your family's loss. Sending prayers and thoughts of comfort your way.

My heart was saddened to read of wonderful Sarah's passing...I met Sarah when I moved to Redding and went to work at the Record Searchlight as the librarian and back up for Sarah...She was one of my first friends who made my job and my move to Redding so much easier...She was just such a kind and loving person...After 4 years I left the paper but we still kept in touch...Unfortunately the last time we spoke was after Ray passed away, but I have thought of her often...I know she is at peace and happy now to be back with her beloved Ray...My deepest sympathies go out to all of her family, whom she loved and cherished with all her heart...Prayers and hopes for all of you to gain strength and peace in all the precious memories of her your wonderful Mom and Grandmother...

Sarah was a kind and loving person. I was so fortunate to work with her at the Record Searchlight. She always had a smile and truly cared about each and everyone of us. She made us each feel so special. To her family, I am sorry for your loss.

I worked with Sarah at the Record Searchlight. She was so kind and like a mother to a newsroom full of young reporters. She spoke so proudly of her sons, who were just then getting settled into adulthood. Scott and Mark, while grieving for your mother, also know that she spread love and grace to so many.
