Virginia Irene (Jimmie) Kuenzler Obituary
Virginia Irene Kuenzler (Jimmie), of Cortez, passed away on October 7, 2017 in Aztec, NM at the age of 96. She was born February 6, 1921 in the Johnson Hospital in Cortez to Roy Graham and Eva Dell Marr, the youngest of five children.

Jimmie spent much of her childhood growing up in Sylvan, but her fondest memories as a girl were from living in and exploring McElmo Canyon with her older sister Helen and their old horse Pet.

Jimmie graduated from Cortez High School in 1939 and attended Fort Lewis College briefly in Hesperus. She met Bill Kuenzler in Cortez and they were married September 27, 1942 in Aztec. Early in their marriage they lived in Rico, California and Washington but the majority of their almost 30 year marriage was spent in Cortez.

Jimmie and Bill had five children, Billy Kuenzler (Margaret), Graham Kuenzler (June), Ginny Dearth, Susan Wright (Jim) and Judi McDonald (Steve).

Jimmie worked as a nurse's aide for much of her adult life and loved her work at the hospital and Cortez Medical Clinic. After retiring she spent winters in Oracle, AZ with her sisters Louida and Iva and summers in Cortez.

Jimmie loved poetry and memorized many poems and songs. Later in life she could often be heard reciting them to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and others.

She always wanted to be a sunbeam for Jesus and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She taught children's Sunday School classes and helped with Vacation Bible School. She could often be found on her knees in prayer. She wanted all who were close to her to know and love Jesus.

Jimmie loved flowers, working in her garden and painting pictures. She was beloved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings and their spouses, Louida Henry (Ted), Iva Lindbeck (Fred), Graham Marr (Dottie) and Helen Gollaway (Lindsay), her son and daughter-in-law, Graham and June Kuenzler and her son-in-law Steve McDonald. She is survived by her four children Billy, Ginny, Susan and Judi, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
