Kathlene was born on June 15, 1939, the daughter of Eldo and Helen (Steinhagen) Krebs in Durant, Iowa. She graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1957. Kathlene married Larry Amerine on June 8, 1958 in Wilton.
Kathlene was a woman whose life was a beautiful blend of creativity, music, faith, and family. She was the owner of “The Window Shoppe”, Custom Draperies. Her artistic spirit extended far beyond fabric - she was a talented watercolor artist, songwriter, and participated in theater. She directed, sang and acted in numerous productions with the Tri-County Playcasters. She also wrote original musicals for Westpark Players and Trinity Lutheran Middle School.
Music was truly the heartbeat of Kathlene’s life. She was a composer, a singer, and a devoted musician who found joy in both performing and leading others. For ten years, she and her family shared their faith and love of music as “The Amerine Family Singers”. She also served faithfully as Choir Director at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Kathlene delighted in crafting, painting and sewing - always creating, always imagining. She also treasured traveling the world with her beloved husband, Larry, visiting many countries together through opportunities provided by American National Insurance Company in recognition of his professional achievements. Above all else, Kathlene loved her family. They were her greatest joy, her deepest pride, and the center of her heart. Her legacy lives on through the music she composed, the art she created, the stages she graced, the faith she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely.
Kathlene will be dearly missed by her husband, Larry; two children, Robin (Casey) Duling and Brian (Lori) Amerine; nine grandchildren, Brian (Kimberly) Amerine, Jr., Nichole Gress, Tyler (Courtney) Amerine, Collin (Laura) Duling, Wyatt (Jeanalyn Legaspi) Duling, Hannah (Nicko) Cruz, Nicole Halligan, James (Stephanie) Halligan and Dakota (Eryn) Halligan; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Kathlene was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nanette Boardwell; and three brothers, Eldo "Sonny", Kenneth and Gaylen Krebs.
