William Summers Obituary

   William Barry Summers, 90, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Barry was born October 4, 1935 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents, Foster William Summers and Nellie Mae (Robinson) Summers. He was also preceded in death by his partner of over fifty years, and husband of nine years, Carl Hugh Cooper.

   Barry was raised in Smyrna, Georgia. He graduated from Marietta High School, Class of 1953, subsequently studying electrical engineering at Georgia Tech. In 1959 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years at Condon Air Force Station near Condon, Oregon, being honorably discharged in October of 1962.

   On moving to Atlanta after his discharge, Barry secured a position with General Electric Corporation in Chamblee where he worked for a number of years. He then went into Real Estate from which he retired in the early 2000’s.

    Barry and Carl lived from 1974 until 2003 in a house on Beech Haven Drive in the LaVista Park neighborhood in DeKalb County. In 2003 they sold that house and built their dream house in Blairsville, Union County, Georgia. Many of their Atlanta friends followed suit and moved to the Blairsville area partially because of the two of them. Barry Summers will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
