Montezuma County resident Robert (Bob) Blackwell passed away May 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by his four living sons, Steve, Glen, Robin and Russell.
Bob was born in Wasco, California on July 31, 1927. He was 91 years old. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary. Three of his sons live in Cortez and one lives in Pocatello, Idaho. His son Don died in 2002.
Bob was known as a hard worker with an uncanny sense of humor. He was employed by a school district for 27 years and also supported his family by raising chickens in the Mojave Desert.
Throughout Bob's life he displayed talents beyond his education. He raced motorcycles, built hotrods, and invented the 1st wind generator in the Mojave Desert. He built a horseless carriage, many wagons and a stagecoach used in Tombstone, Arizona today. He was always inventing something to make someone's life better. Toward his more senior years, he restored old cars and loved working in his yard.
He was liked by everyone that knew him and was as proud of his sons as they were of him. He was the father we all wished and hope to be.
Bob was a great man by all that knew him, and he will be sincerely missed. By his wishes, there will not be a ceremony. His desire is that we celebrate his life, not his death. He will be cremated at Ertel Funeral Home.
