David Edward Tate, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Cortez, CO on Oct. 15, 2020.

David was raised in Cortez and Dolores. He graduated from Dolores High School in 1962 and continued on to Fort Lewis College. David's career in Social Services spanned over 30 years including directing five facilities for developmentally disabled citizens. He returned to spent the last 20+ years in the Cortez area.

He is survived by his mother Arveda Thurman (Wayne); siblings Darrell Tate (Mary McMillan), Kathy Levesque, Gary Coster, Luanne Beatty (Rick); and 17 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his father Eddie Frances Tate; grandmother Bessie Hinton; and siblings Byron Francis Tate (Judy) and Penny Lynn Smith-Sorlagas (Randy).

With the heart of a servant, David lovingly cared for all that were fortunate to be part of his life. He loved reading, dancing and Dolly Parton. He will be remembered as a loving son and brother. He was everyone's confidant, though very private himself. He was genuine, with a quick wit, great sense of humor and an astute perspective on life.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

We went to Salt Lake City on the All Round Student Trip in about 1959. Mrs. Ripley was our chaperone and we had a fun and educational week. David and I rode in the first seat on the roller coaster time after time. We saw Ben-Hur and enjoyed a concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I am sending sincere sympathy to David's family and friends.
