Janet Elizabeth Leenstra passed away peacefully at her home in Dolores, Colorado, on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
Born August 25, 1942, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Janet was the first-born child of Lennox Tate and Doris Pettigrew Keeler. Her first best friend and sister Judi soon joined the family followed by beloved brother David.
Jan married Jeffrey Kenneth Garlick on April 4, 1964. They emigrated to the United States in 1969, living first in New York before settling in New Jersey. Jan and Jeff were the proud parents of Caroline Mary and Susan Elizabeth. The family moved to Utah in 1987. Jan and Jeff enjoyed many adventures together before his passing in 1991. They loved travelling, skiing, golfing, playing tennis, and working together caring for their many animals which included dogs, horses, and sheep. In 1997 Jan married Jake Leenstra. They had many happy times together and enjoyed camping and hiking with their dogs Maggie and Bill. They moved to Colorado in 2005.
Jan is survived by her daughters, Carrie (DeLaun) Willoughby, and Sue Garlick. One of her greatest joys in life was her grandson Darwin Cooper, and step-granddaughters Ashlie Jensen and Natasha Gibbons.
Jan's family would like to extend a special thanks to the many people who helped with her care, especially Annrelena Woody for her kindness.
A family memorial for Jan will take place at a later date.
