Landis Kay (Keck) Porter, age 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at her farm south of Cortez.
Landis was born July 2, 1950 in Nocona, Texas to Richard Dee Keck and Betty Jo (Weaver) Exum.
During her younger years, they followed the oil field and moved around quite a lot between Texas, California, Colorado and Utah.
She graduated from Montezuma Cortez High School in 1968 and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver.
Landis met Toad at a VFW dance. They were married on Toad's birthday, May 13, 1976. They lived on their farm south of Cortez, raising three sons and building their farm into quite a place.
Landis was appointed to the FSA (Farm Services Agency) during the Bush administration where she was employed for eight years. She really enjoyed her position and her flying trips to Denver. Landis and Toad always received a Christmas card from President Bush, either from Crawford, Texas or Washington D.C. Landis also worked for the Montezuma Cortez School District where she was the notification clerk. Her role was to find substitute teachers and aides for teachers when they were needed.
Landis enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, cake decorating, and her collection of toads. She loved to cook and was very good at it. Her monkey bread was delicious. She was also a member of the Republican Women here in Cortez.
She loved to garden; she always planted flowers around the house and very much enjoyed taking care of them.
Landis loved being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren and her one great-grandson. She also loved having tea parties with her granddaughters. Landis was always happy holding and loving on all the babies, even all of her nieces and nephews.
Landis is survived by her husband, Toad Porter; three sons, Dustin Porter, Peoria, AZ; Ray Porter (Jamie), Denver, CO; Stephen Porter, Chandler, AZ and Cortez, CO; her sister Brenda O'Brien (Rick), Cortez, CO; grandchildren, Derek, Courtney, Emma, Zoe, Olivia, Kaden, Holden; great-grandson Damien; and many nieces and nephews. Landis enjoyed being a mom, grandmother and 44 years of being a farm wife.
Landis Porter's funeral was held at the Church of Christ in Cortez, on June 6th, 2020. She was buried at Battlerock Cemetery in McElmo Canyon. If you would like to speak to Toad Porter, his phone number is 970-749-1334. We appreciate all the love we have received thus far. If you would like to donate to any charity (Landis liked Children's Charities most) in lieu of flowers, it would be much appreciated. In case you missed her funeral and would like to watch, you can watch it from her Facebook page (you will probably need to disable the "auto turn" feature on your phone) by using this link: https://www.facebook.com/landis.porter.7/videos/2663537360593322
