Mrs. Maude Walker Sanders, 95, departed this life at her residence on January 28, 2026.
Mrs. Sanders was born on July 22, 1930 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. The daughter of the late Arthur Walker and Lelia Malone Walker. She was baptized at an early age at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, Virginia. Prior to her illness she attended Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sanders graduated from Dinwiddie Training School in 1948. She worked at Imperial Reading Sewing Factory. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and started a small business with her nephew in downtown Petersburg. She had a passion for interior decorating and for making beautiful floral designs. She enjoyed traveling and visited many cities to visit family and go to casinos. Even during her illness she found joy in winning at the slot machines. She loved watching her Soap Operas! Most importantly, she loved her family - her children, her grandchildren, her nieces and her nephews. As the Matriarch of the family, she became the mother for not only her children but also her siblings children. She was the “Best Mother” and will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her late husband, SFC (Ret.) Ambers Sanders, Sr., daughters Patricia Bethel Mann and Jacqueline Pamela Bethel, and siblings: Matleen Walker, Samuel Walker, Clarence Walker, John Walker, Frances Walker Price, and Altro Walker; nephew, Altro Foy Walker.
Mrs. Sanders leaves to cherish her memory: devoted sons, Amber Sanders, Jr., Stefan Sanders, and Michael Sanders (Marketa); loving daughter, Sabrena Sanders; Grandchildren: Daniel McCrae, Jacoby Sanders, Shaniqua Graves and Isabella Sanders; Great grandchildren: Javien Graves and Skylah Hawkins; devoted nephews and nieces: Harold Price, Jr., Gail Walker Jarrett (Danny), Reginald Price, Sr., Jane Walker Vogel, Wayne Price, Valerie Walker Brooks, Keith Price, Jonnitra Walker Bland (Carl); and a host of other family and friends, including life long friend Maxine Simone and Vannette Taylor, her compassionate and caring caregiver for 5 years.
A homegoing service will be held on Saturday February 7, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
Public viewing will be held on Friday February 6, 2026 from 12 Noon to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
