Georgia Braun passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, age 97, at the home where she raised her 10 children along with the help from her beloved husband, Bill.
Georgia was born on May 18, 1928 in
Saint Bonifacius, Mn to George and Cecilia Sames. George Sames moved his family to Melrose MN in 1950 and that is where Georgia met and married the love of her life and best friend, Wilfred "Bill" Braun. They moved to
Ely, MN. in the late summer of 1954 and were often heard telling many people that "it was the best decision they ever made."
After raising her own 10 children, Georgia opened up her home and heart to many young children of Ely with her daycare business.
In 1990 Bill and Georgia retired and spent many memorable days at their cabin on Shagawa Lake in
Ely, MN.
She is survived by her children Mary (Chris) Peterson, Tom (Deb) Braun, Mike(Chris) Braun, Cindy Kuhar, Beth Patterson, daughter in law Robin Braun, Cecilia(Randy) Bennett, Peter(Karen) Braun, Cathy(Frank Ivancich) Braun.
She was also blessed with 15 grandchildren Kristen (Justin) DeRuda, Sharon (Dane) Hanson, Melissa(Matt) VanHavermaet, Nick (Jane) Kuhar, Alex(Anna)Kuhar, Kelsey (Aaron) Donais, Mychal (Kate) Ivancich, Steven(Maren) Ivancich, Davis Walsh Braun, Blake Walsh Braun, Erik (Nicole) Patterson, Luke (Breanna) Patterson, Jake Patterson, Christopher (Hanna) Peterson, Joe Bennett along with 13 Great Grandchildren, Britton and Emerick VanHavermaet, Marianna and Milana DeRuda, Sloane and Declan Ivancich, Chloe and Cooper Patterson, Pricilla and Stella Patterson, Penelope and Lawrence Kuhar, and Quinn Bennett.
Georgia is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Bill, infant daughter Margaret Mary, son John Braun, son William Braun, granddaughter Nicole Ivancich, grandson Adam Walsh Braun, and son in law Frank Kuhar.
Georgia had such a generous heart full of sunshine that she spread to all of her family and friends through her years. She will be dearly missed.
Georgia generously donated her body to the University of MN medical research. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
