David Dickter Obituary
April 12, 1953 - January 26, 2026 Dave. There isn't enough space in an obituary to capture you. You consumed life with curiosity and a sense of adventure. You also consumed dub-dubs with grilled onions at 11:30 a.m. while you were in college because, well, you could. Here then is the short version of you:
YOU SAW THE FUTURE - Your curiosity and inherent grasp of ideas led you to embrace something called personal computers in 1984, founding a cutting-edge company ahead of its time. You saw the potential of something called "the internet" and "email" before anyone else and struck a deal with KCBS to be their internet provider.
ATHLETE AND SCHOLAR - As pitcher, you tied Hall of Famer Jim Palmer's record for the most strikeouts . . . in a Beverly Hills Little League Game. You distinguished yourself as the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens catcher for as long as you were allowed to remain in a game because you were frequently thrown out for challenging calls. As the wildly popular play-by-play announcer for the Sagehens football team, your on-air work of wisecracks and Slippery Rock University score updates prompted Pomona's president to throw you out of the booth. Your return to the broadcast booth by popular demand from the student body was a triumphant moment. And you did all of this while excelling as a Pomona College student.
THE DAVID DICKTER DEBATING SOCIETY - You loved a good argument. The fun was how a mundane conversation snowballed into a raging debate. It could be over world events or preferences in pies. It didn't matter. You stirred the pot and thrived on the resulting back and forth until no one's mind was changed, but a lot of fun was had.
A KIND AND GENTLE MAN - We could go on recounting your irreverent and singular approach to life, but what everyone needs to know is that you were a very good man with a restless intellect and a constant authenticity. You lived life entirely on your own terms. You loved magic and motorcycles, poker and comedy. You found joy in both speed and stillness. And you had an exceptional green thumb and were naturally generous with what you grew.
DAVID'S LEGACY - Your legacy from your parents, Morry z"l and Sally z"l, is DNA'd into your loving daughters, Natalie (Drew) and Carly, and your grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia. Your siblings, Cindy (David) and Robert, will never forget you, nor will your nieces and nephews, David (Katie), Hillary (Mikey), Annie z"l, and five great nieces and nephews. The Dave stories will live on through a wonderful set of dear lifelong friends, especially Mark, Roger, Biff and Jeff. We know you would thank Trish, who understood what a treasure you were, and who, with her husband Ron, have adopted your beloved Max. You were a true original. Unapologetically you and deeply loved for it. We miss you already. David's life will be celebrated privately. Please think of Davd when you have a great meal, an adventure or when the Dodgers play.
