Teresa Yuhas, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the Center for Hospice Care Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka. The eldest of ten children, she was born on May 18, 1952, in Darby, PA to Walter and Teresa (Hosey) Townsend.
Teresa graduated from high school in Lombard, Illinois. She began her career in insurance and later worked as a bank teller. In 1979, she met Thomas E. Yuhas and asked him to marry her on Sadie Hawkins Day, February 29, 1980. They were united in marriage on May 2, 1981 in Wheaton, IL at St. Michael Catholic Church.
As Thomas established his dentistry practice, Teresa became an integral part of the operation by managing bookkeeping duties. Among her various roles, her most cherished was that of mother. Teresa diligently managed a busy household while raising their five children: Thomas Jr., Christopher, Donald, Timothy, and Marjorie. With the arrival of grandchildren, she embraced the role of grandmother with great love and joy, cherishing the time spent with each of them.
In 1997, they purchased their home in Culver, spending weekends and summer breaks away from the city. After their retirement in 2014, Tom and Teresa relocated permanently to Culver. In her later years, you could often find her relaxing in front of her fireplace with a Hallmark movie or playing a game of Candy Crush on her iPad. She looked forward to their weekly tradition of breakfast at Christos on Sunday morning and dinner at the Bass Lake Pub on Monday nights.
Teresa is survived by her loving husband, Thomas E. Yuhas; children, Thomas E. (Sarah) Yuhas, Jr., Christopher M. (Rachel) Yuhas, Donald J. Yuhas, Timothy J (Kelsey) Yuhas, and Marjorie Ann (Kevin) Smith; grandchildren, Morgan, Carter, Emery, Harper, Maylin, Connor, Maverick, Emilia, Briella, Piper, Caysen, and Leland; siblings, Walt, Mary, Helen, Patti, Suzie, John, Eddie, Anne; along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Teresa and by her brother, Billy.
