Terwilliger, Russell Dean, PhD

Russ, age 90, was born in West Freedom, PA, the son of the late Russell and Edith Terwilliger, formerly of Angola, NY, as the eldest of three boys. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers, and his son, Rex Terwilliger. He is survived by his wife, Joan Terwilliger, sons Russell (Melanie) and Joel (Marla), daughter-in-law Susan Terwilliger, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He earned his B.S. and Masters degrees from the State University of NY and a Ph.D from the University of Pittsburgh, PA where he was awarded a fellowship in counseling psychology. Dr. Terwilliger retired from the Georgia Institute of Technology as the Director of the Mental Health & Counseling Center, College of Sciences.

In addition to his professional affiliations, he was appointed by the then Governor of Georgia to serve on the Secretary of State's Licensing Division for professional counseling and mental services.

Russ was adept at many sports and especially loved tennis and golf. He completed qualifications as a master racquet stringer and enjoyed this hobby stringing racquets for his tennis teams.

Always available to coach his three boys in their chosen sports his fairness was always apparent.

It is an understatement to say "He will be missed." His absence will leave a void in our lives forever!

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2:00 pm at St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church, 1795 Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta, GA with a reception following in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to the American Heart Association.
