There are few people that I remember my mom, June, loving fiercely, but her cousin Joanie was certainly one of them.
My memories of Joan are mostly 35+ years old, but for a kid, the house and pool in the woods was just about the coolest thing ever. I remember, too, a kind of lightness about my mom when she was with the Vacca´s. I can understand now that it was a comfort to her; through (a lot of) laughter, love, and stories, it was a way for her to feel closer to her dad and brother, Genie.
I will be forever grateful to Luke for reconnecting with me a few years ago. To watch my mom and Joan giggling like school girls over a dinner in Italy, where the story began, was just about as surreal as it can get. My mom´s mind might not be able to recover that memory, but her heart surely does.
All our love from Italy,
Jana, June, Max and Giovanni

To the Guilmette Family
Please accept my deepest sympathy. What a loss to the entire Family but also to the Town of Portland. How fortunate I was to be Principal of Portland High School when Joan served on the Board Of Education and to happily her kids when they attended PJS. It was always a pleasure to run into Joan and to reminisce about the good old days. She always made me laugh! Her contributions the the town and the school system were above and beyond expectations. Unfortunately because health I am dealing with I am unable to attend funeral services. Hopefully we we meet up again someday. I will certainly remember Joan on my prayers.

I worked with Joan at the Mark Twain Museum and enjoyed working with her! She was so much fun and she loved her birthday as much as I love mine. Enjoyed sone fun dinners out at J Gilbert´s and I just loved her! I a sending prayers to Randy and her kids and grandkids - she spoke of them often with such admiration and love!

To the entire Guilmette and Vacca we are so sorry to read of Joan´s passing. This beautiful obituary is a tribute to a life well-lived but much too short. May your many wonderful memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.
