Albertina McCaffrey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stith Funeral Home of Danville on Feb. 12, 2026.
Albertina (Tina) McCaffrey (nee Bollerup), widow of John McCaffrey, died February 8, 2026 at her home in Harrodsburg, Kentucky with family at her side.

Tina was born in 1921 in Hemingford, Nebraska. She grew up and graduated high school in McCook, NE in 1939. She went to college in Salina, KS and studied biology and chemistry, graduating as a medical lab technician in 1943. She met her future husband, John, during World War II while he was stationed nearby for training. Tina and John were married in 1946 after he came home from the war.

Tina and John had 9 children over the ensuing years, living in Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon, and California while John was in the military. When John left the service, they stayed in California, where Tina worked as a teacher and then as a social worker until retirement. They lived briefly in Oregon before moving to Morro Bay, California, where they settled and spent many years active in their community. After John passed at age 81, Tina continued living independently in California until the age of 98, when she moved in with her son, Paul. In 2023, she moved to live with her son Peter, in Harrodsburg, KY.

Her long life spanned many events – she experienced the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression during the 1930's and remembered providing help to people during those hardships. Her father ran a market and while they were not well-off, they did have food on the table. She remembered hearing Franklin Roosevelt's fireside chats on the radio and following the wartime events of WWII.

Tina's strong faith was a central part of her entire life, and she remained active in the Catholic church throughout. She treasured her friends and family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tina is predeceased by her husband, John, 5 children (Margaret, Maurice, Kevin, Kathy, and Joe), and 1 grandchild (Meghan). She is survived by 4 children (Mary, John, Paul, and Peter) and their spouses (David, Kathleen, Judith, and Mary), 2 daughters-in-law (Connie and Eileen), 1 son-in-law (Joe), 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville, KY, on February 19 at 11:00 am, with visitation at 10:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to Heritage Hospice, Inc., or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
