Billie Bennett Hubbard passed peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born on June 30, 1945, in
LaGrange, GA to the late William Herman Bennett and the late Eva (Karr) Bennett. She lived a life defined by love, laughter, faith, strength, and determination.
Billie was the beloved wife of James Hubbard for 50 years. Sweethearts as children, they later found their way back to one another and built a marriage grounded in devotion, partnership, and unconditional love. Together, they created a family rooted in faith and compassion.
She was a devoted mother to Toby Charles "Chuck" James, Joseph "Joe" James and wife Nancy, and Serena "Rena" (Hubbard) Gregory and husband Matt. She was a proud grandmother to Josh James, Cory James, Shana James (Parker), Trey James, Will James, Jackson James, Eva Beth James, Anna Grace James, Alli Gregory, and Emily Gregory; and a cherished great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many cousins and extended family members. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She showed her love in countless ways-through encouragement, heartfelt prayers, warm meals, thoughtful phone calls, and simply being present. Her family was her greatest joy.
Her faith was central to who she was, and she shared it openly and proudly. She was an active member of The Bridge Church, where she taught the senior ladies' Sunday school class and found community, purpose, and strength. She lived her faith daily through kindness, generosity, and a servant's heart.
Billie had a lifelong passion for swimming. What began as something she loved became something she truly excelled at. Even later in life, she remained dedicated to the sport, competing in the National Senior Games and proudly earning several gold medals. Her determination and discipline were inspiring, proving to everyone around her that it is never too late to chase goals or celebrate victories.
One of her favorite places on earth was the Golden Isles of Jekyll Island, where she loved spending time with her family searching for shark teeth along the shore. What began as a cherished childhood tradition became a treasured legacy she passed down to her children and grandchildren, filled with salty air, sandy toes, laughter, and stories. Those simple beach walks became lasting memories, reminding everyone that joy is often found in the smallest moments shared together.
She was also proud of the day she went skydiving, a bold leap that perfectly captured her courage and adventurous spirit. It became one of her favorite stories to tell, reminding us all, that she was never afraid to truly live.
Billie will be remembered for her loving spirit, steadfast faith, resilience, and the way she made everyone feel seen and cared for. Her legacy lives on through her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and all those whose lives she touched. In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her son, Toby Charles "Chuck" James, and her sister, Joan Hubbard.
She is survived by her husband, James Hubbard; her children: Joe and Rena; grandchildren: Josh, Cory, Shana, Trey, Will, Jackson, Eva Beth, Anna Grace, Ali, and Emily; her nine great grandchildren; sister: Edith Hale; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
