Born on April 28, 1947, in Chesterfield, SC, Mr. Wood was the son of the late Melvin B. and Ethel White Wood. A proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, he played a key role in tank operations. J.B. was a retired employee of Chesterfield – Marlboro Technical College and a former employee of Chesterfield General Hospital.
As a faithful member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church, J.B. served as Deacon, former Sunday school teacher and R.A. Leader. He had a passion for classic cars, tractors, and woodworking. His family fondly recalls his love for Goodwill, before his family could make any plans for him, he had to be assured a trip to Bojangles for breakfast, a fish plate for lunch, and a stop at the nearest Goodwill store. Above all, he cherished his role as a loving “Pa-pa” to his grandchildren and was fondly addressed as that by many.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was also preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Wood and wife, Joyce; brother-in-law, Bubba Gaskins; sister-in-law, Brenda Mumford; father-in-law, Leroy Mumford; and mother-in-law, Rosa “Peachie” Davis.

(Dale) Davis of Chesterfield, SC, and Jamie (Renee) Wood, Jr. of Lancaster, SC; and grandchildren Taylor (Jordan) Sanner, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jared Davis, Grace (Noah) Hill, Aubreigh (Wes) Rutledge, Kaylee Wood, Cameron Wood, and Timmy Witherspoon, along with a great-grandchild, Xander Hutcherson. Donald) Wallace, and Lynn Davidson of Chesterfield, SC, Joyce Davis of Bennettsville, SC, and Carol Traini of Cheraw, SC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lawson, Andrew, Zack, Dr. Rob Elder, and the dedicated ICU team at McLeod Health-Cheraw, as well as the compassionate staff of Agape Hospice for their exceptional care and support during this time.
