Darold Sindt Obituary

KEYSTONE: Darold Glen Sindt (85), of Keystone, passed away on February 9th, 2026, at Keystone Nursing Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Keystone with Pastor Josiah Schultz officiating. A private family burial will be held following the service at Keystone Cemetery. Upon the family's return, a luncheon will be held at the Keystone Turner Hall. The visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Darold was born on January 14th, 1941, to Glen and Amanda (Rieck) Sindt in a home near Luzerne. After graduating from Keystone High School in 1959, he immediately went to work for the John Deere dealer, Fred Schneider Implement. In 1962, he married Paulette Pohlmann. They were blessed with three children. He served in the Iowa National Guard in 1959 and was proud to be a veteran. He spent the rest of his career as a John Deere dealer after buying the business in 1968. He deeply valued his chosen career as owner of Sindt Implement. Through the years, he continuously expanded his love for all things John Deere. Since the agricultural industry was so important to him, he worked hard to do anything and everything to support farmers through planting and harvest season. Thus, he became known for saying, "It'll work." During his career, he was able to acquire John Deere tractors and machinery. In his own words, "Pigshit's the name; machinery is the game." Upon retiring in 2006, he opened the Sindt Implement Antique Museum, where he hosted visitors from all over the world.

Darold was active in many community activities over the years, including the Keystone Businessmen's Club, Jaycees, Optimist Club, Keystone Turners, St. John's Lutheran Church Council, Keystone Town Council, Keystone Fire Department, Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone Savings Bank Board, the Van Horne Legion, and a member of local country clubs. He went on to be active in the Iowa/Nebraska Farm Equipment Dealers Association, Iowa Athletic Swim Club, and Benton County and National I-Clubs.

Growing up and working on the farm, he was not able to participate in sports; however, he was an avid fan. He was able to feed that love by attending the Daytona 500, Final 4 basketball Tournament, World Series, Super Bowl, and countless Hawkeye games. He and Paulette traveled the United States and many countries. To celebrate their anniversary, they traveled annually to many destinations with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When he wasn't working, he spent time bowling, golfing, going on tractorcades, attending and helping at machinery auctions, playing cards, and being at his museum. Most importantly, he treasured being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished each of them dearly and was blessed to be in their lives for so long. His legacy lives on in each of them.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Paulette; children, Derrick Sindt (Jana Dewhurst), Daralee (Ron) Schnor, and John (Krissa) Sindt; 8 grandchildren, Courtney (Chase) Skoneczka, Katrina (Mitch) Moser, Connor Sindt, Trinity (Dalton) Lawless, Tiffany (Dylan) Niebes, Amanda Schnor, Kobe Sindt, and Marina Sindt and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janelle (Steve) Pickering; sister-in-law, Jean Hammill; many nieces and nephews; and his right-hand man, Will Heitman. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Larry, and brother-in-law Walt Hammill.
