George Powell III Obituary

George Tillman "Tim" Powell III, 81, of Chapin, husband of Julie Tuten Powell, passed away Friday, February 13,2026 at Lexington Hospice House.

Born on January 7, 1945, in Greenwood, he was the son of the late George Tillman Powell JR and Mildred Willingham.

Tim dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career as a lawyer, proudly serving for 37 years with SC Electrical Cooperative. His legal expertise was matched only by his integrity and compassion for others, making him a trusted advocate and a beloved colleague. Tim gradated from The Citadel class of '67, going on to serve honorably as a captain in the Army, displaying the same commitment and dedication that he brought to all aspects of his life.

Above all, Tim cherished his roles as a husband and father. His sons, Matthew and Gregory, carry forward the values their father instilled in them. George was a doting grandfather to his two precious granddaughters, Lily and Georgia, and he treasured each phone call with them, offering words of love and wisdom that will remain etched in their hearts forever. Tim found peace in nature, whether it was gazing out over Lake Greenwood or sitting on his deck, listening to the birds. He was a man of simple pleasures who embraced the beauty around him, bringing warmth and kindness to every moment. In addition to his wife, Julie, he is survived by his sons, Matthew Powell (Amie), and Gregory Powell; granddaughters, Lily and Georgia; and a sister, Deborah Kaemmerlen.

A graveside service was held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating.
