Karen Genie (Caraway) Ashworth, age 84, was called to her eternal rest on February 6, 2026, in
San Antonio, Texas. Born in
Three Rivers, Texas to Herbie and Patsy Caraway on March 1, 1941, Karen's life was a testament to the grace and beauty found in the simplicity of nature and the joy of creation.
Karen attended Refugio High School and furthered her education in Art at the University of North Texas embracing knowledge with humility and gratitude. This would shape a path that would lead to her career as a florist and owner of the Refugio Flower Shop for over 26 years through which she cultivated an environment of beauty and serenity, touching the lives of those in her community with every event she decorated and bouquet she created.
Karen raised her family in Refugio, Texas and also served her community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years. As a devout member of the Episcopal Church, Karen's faith was her compass, guiding her to live with respect for creation and a heart filled with generosity and kindness. Karen enjoyed the lifelong relationships with her friends. Her sense of humor was unwavering. Karen moved back to the North Texas area where she embarked on a career as a personal chef before eventually moving to Boerne,Texas upon retirement.
She found profound joy in her hobbies, which included painting, traveling to Europe, cooking gourmet meals, reading, sewing, knitting, making pottery, and gardening-each a reflection of her adoration for the wonders of the Lord's work.
Karen also enjoyed classical music --attending many symphonies, operas, and musicals. Visiting art museums and galleries enriched her fondness and appreciation for fine art.
Karen's legacy of love and laughter is carried on by her children, Marett Moore (Steve), Clint Ashworth (Colette), Lauren Moore (Tommy), Lydia Teague (Darrin), and her nine beloved grandchildren. She now joins in Heaven her parents, Herbie and Patsy Caraway, whom she dearly missed.
In her passing, Karen leaves behind a legacy of love, a love that was a mirror of divine affection, and a reminder to all to live with grace and to cherish the gift of each new day. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
