Maynard Maltby Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Feb. 13, 2026.
Maynard William Maltby, 76 of Wheeler, died Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital Saginaw. He was born February 28, 1949, in Midland, son of the late William 'Roy' and Norma Elaine (Parsons) Maltby.
Maynard made the most out of the simple things in life. He found joy in midnight karaoke or just an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Going "glamping", fishing on the pond for that giant catfish he knew was in there somewhere, witnessing the magic of a cabin on the lake, listening to the Tigers play, or spending time at his home and on the Chippewa River. Most importantly, Maynard was a teacher. He taught his family how to love and be there for each other. He always saw the good in people and made sure everyone he loved was cared for in whatever way was needed.
Maynard is survived by his wife Alice (Camp) Maltby of Wheeler, daughter Brandi (Frank) Hesse of Sterling, Alaska, sons Shane Maltby and Brandi James of Wheeler and Craig (Lisa) McDonald of Lake City; grandchildren, Irelynn (Ezekiel) Daman, Hans (Justine) Hesse, and Sven (Emily) Hesse, Nellie Maltby, Ava Maltby, Ariah Maltby, Logan Maltby, Emerson Maltby, Megan (Josh) Kolwyck, China Schmidt, Jessica Schmidt, Brandon McDonald, Logan McDonald, Christopher McDonald, step daughter Kathy Elliott, Robert (Carrie) Elliott, and Brandon (Lauren) Elliott; great-grandchildren, Aryana, Thorson, Freya, Leonidas, Mylee, Shyanna, Camden, and David Jr. He is also survived by his brother Fred 'Fritz' Post of Sanford, stepsisters Patsy (Kelpinski) Parsons and Nancy (Kelpinski) Milton; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Maltby of Freeland, Eleanor Post of Sanford; four-legged friends, Murphy, Derby, Mamma Cat, and Cabby.
In addition to his parents, Maynard was preceded in death by his son Ty Roger Maltby, his brother Kenneth Maltby; stepfathers, Fred Post and Forest 'Fred' Barber; stepmother Betty Maltby, stepsisters, Jeanine Caldwell and Candy Holtz.
