Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elmhurst Community Funeral Home - The Ahlgrim Chapel on Feb. 10, 2026.
Robert "Bob" Lown, age 77, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of Westchester, IL, formerly of
Naperville, IL and
Arcadia, CA, passed away peacefully at his home on February 7, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on November 9, 1948 in Binghamton, NY and raised in
Waynesboro, PA by the late Robert F. and Florence Lown, he was the beloved husband of Arlene for 54 years; loving father of Amy (Patrick) Jones, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Lown, and Ryan Lown; cherished grandfather or "Bucky" as he was known to Ava and Sophia Lown, and Parker and Kate Jones; dear brother of Dottie (the late Paul) McCauley, and Sharon Hattrick (Mary Libertin); and fond uncle to a whole platoon of nieces and nephews who inherited his uncanny ability to win trivia.
Bob hustled through careers at Goodhew Ambulance and AT&T in Los Angeles, CA, Lucent in
Naperville, IL, and most recently The Home Depot based in Atlanta, GA, where he spent 21 years as the "go to guy" for voice-over IP advice and an endless supply of dad jokes. A devoted employee and co worker, he cherished the friendships and memories from his 50+ year career.
You always wanted Bob as your trivia partner; his knowledge could out Cliff Claven the Cheers mailman any day. He passed his love of chess down to his children and grandchildren, turning family game nights into epic (and highly competitive) battles where "checkmate" usually came with a grin and a good laugh. His Marine service taught him unbreakable strength against life's obstacles and was summed up in his mantra: "Once a Marine, always a Marine." (and yes, that absolutely included never asking for directions). He is dearly missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind countless stories, shared laughter, and a family forever grateful for the life lived to the fullest. Semper Fi!
A Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1310 Shepherd Dr.,
Naperville, IL on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 1pm - 3pm directly followed by a Memorial Service, with military honors, beginning at 3pm at the church. He will be interred privately at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Union Grove, WI.
