Sandra Sample Obituary

Sandra Lee Sample, 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at UVM Health Network–CVPH in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandy was born on September 21, 1944, the fifth child of Elricka (Frenyea) and Austin Lamberton. She was a lifelong resident of Mooers Forks, NY. After graduating from Mooers Central School, she was employed at Ayerst Laboratories and later worked for over 20 years at Sample Lumber Company.

Sandy was a devoted member of the Mooers Fire Department Auxiliary and the Ladies of St. Ann's Church for many years. She generously gave her time helping to raise funds by working in their food booths and serving customers with her warm smile.

On June 27, 1964, she married the love of her life, Alton "Ally" Sample. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three sons: Stephen (Dina), Gregory (Kathleen), and Kevin (Heidi).

Sandy was a proud and loving grandmother to Taylor (Michael), Jacob (Rebecca), Jordan, Kalie (Nicholas), Abbie (Nico), Marlie, Jack, and Maggie. She was also blessed with her first great-grandson, Brooks, who brought her so much joy. She cherished her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Sandy lovingly sewed quilts, crocheted, knitted, baked cookies, and happily took on any project requested by her loved ones. Family gatherings on Friday nights with Chef Boyardee pizza and shoestring fries, family favorites macaroni and tomatoes, scotcharoos, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and nun farts were staples at every special gathering.

Sandy and Ally enjoyed wintering in Florida, starting with two-week trips that eventually evolved into two-month stays each year. After retiring, they continued traveling to visit relatives and built lasting friendships at The Oaks in Kissimmee, where they created a cherished Florida "family."

In addition to her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her sister, Janice Sargeant; sisters-in-law, Almira and Janet Lamberton; stepbrothers, Harold (Trudy) and Donald (Irene) Lamberton; stepsister, Evelyn (Larry) Richards; brothers-in-law, Donald Rabideau, David, Jr., Bruce, George, and Roger Sample; and sisters-in-law, Norma Rabideau and Denise Sample.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Alton "Ally" Sample; her brothers, Robert, Harry "Dick," and James (Beverly) Lamberton; her sisters, Betty (Lucien) Duquette and Carol (Walter) Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In honor of Sandy's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery in the spring. Following the Mass, a Celebration of Sandy's Life will be held at the Brookside Barn in Altona, NY.

Memorial donations in Sandy's memory may be made to the Mooers Fire Department or St. Ann's Church.
