Wanda Divita Obituary

Wanda June Ward Divita, 90, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 26, 2026.

A graveside service to honor Wanda’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 5th at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, West Virginia.

Wanda was born on September 7, 1935, in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, to the late Robert Elson Ward and Maysel Cruikshank Ward. She was a proud graduate of Gauley Bridge High School, where her vibrant spirit was seen through her role as drum major and a majorette. She especially enjoyed teaching other girls to be majorettes, sharing both skill and confidence.

Wanda loved the ocean, appreciating the peace and beauty it brought her. She was also an avid collector who treasured the meaningful items she gathered throughout her life. Wanda was a woman of strong will and focused determination, qualities that guided her throughout her life and helped her accomplish much for others as well as herself.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Wanda was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church and later attended The Immaculate Conception - St. Anthony’s Shrine, both in Montgomery, WV. She gave generously of her time and heart, serving as president of the Women’s Junior League and as a dedicated chairman for the March of Dimes.

Above all else, Wanda was a loving mother who cherished her family fiercely and loved them in a way that was steady, protective, and true. Her strength, love, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Suzette Deaton (Jeff) of Morehead City, NC; sister, Jacqueline Keep (Asa) of Seattle, WA and Charlene Sproles (Joseph) of Louisville, KY; brother, Gary Ward (Dale) of Russellville, TN; grandchildren, Jeffrey Blake Deaton, Shane Everett Deaton, Mandy Farmer, and Kristi Elkins Wilcox; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy Farmer, Katie Farmer, Landon Farmer, Kipton Elkins, Graham Elkins, and Harper Elkins.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis James Divita; sisters, Norma Jordan and Gloria Nanette Ward; and brother, Robert E. Ward Jr.
