Norman was born in
Stevens Village, Alaska, the son of mother, *Josephine (Adams) Evans and father, *Charles A. Evans (biological father *Morris Edwin). From a young age, Norman demonstrated a natural passion for art, with a particular fondness for drawing the natural world, wilderness, and wildlife in precise pencil strokes, supported by a photographic memory.
Norm lived the majority of his life on his Athabascan lands throughout the Interior in deep connection to his tribal heritage, communities, and traditional practices. He was always hunting, trapping, gathering wood, and fishing on the Yukon River. Norman had a strong connection to his family and his Native community. He was an extremely strong and hardworking man who enjoyed working with his hands; he could build just about anything he set his mind to.
Those who knew Norman will remember him for his big, infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
He was predeceased by his parents, mother, *Josephine (Adams) Evans and father, *Charles A. Evans (biological father *Morris Edwin); brothers, *Herman Joseph, *Elijah Joseph and *Dale Evans; sisters, *Sharon Evans *Zelma Axford and *Norma Edwin; nephews, *Herman Joseph, *Chris *Richard Butler and *Donny Miller; and nieces, *Sandra Ollice *Daryon Williams and *Sharon Derry.
He is survived by his daughter, Tanique, and his grandchildren; brothers, Charles D. Evans (Chuck) and Tommy (Curt) Evans; sisters, JoAnn (Joseph) Sweetsir, Shirley Bussdieker, Linda Mohn, and Mary (Evans) Derry and Shirina Grimaldi; foster sisters, Sarah Gorrod and Karen Hjelm Saylor; aunties, Flo O'Brien and Elly Moses; and uncle, Ardy Adams; nieces, Rochelle Hope, Cheryl Strunk, Anna Joseph, Jennifer Joseph, Yolanda Evans, Ellenore Kirsteatter, Raquel Derry, Andrea Hatch, Bonnie Bell, Misty Rose John, Keisha Joseph and Cheyenne Honea; nephews, Jimmy Ollice, Jamie Joseph, David Joseph, Anthony Joseph Paul Kirsteatter, Ash Tyler Brown Arland Dick Jr., Joe Dick, Brian Dick, Charles D. Smoke, Michael Evans, John Evans, Isaac Evans, Calvin Evans, Jason Evans and Alex Evans.
Norman had so many friends and relatives he called his sis and bros - and cousins, cousins, cousins. Norman was so very blessed with such a large and loving family and friends.
Norman Andrew Joseph's visitation and funeral services took place on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Chapel of Chimes Officiated by Pastor Steve Reed and followed by a Celebration of Life at United Methodist Church in
Fairbanks, Alaska.
In keeping with his wishes, Norman will be taken home to his place on the Yukon River after the river-break-up. He will rest by the water and land he loved. We will update and announce to family and friends with his final arrangements.
