Ned Berlet Obituary

Ned Q. Berlet, 97, of rural Wapakoneta, passed away at 6:30 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2026, at Wapakoneta Manor, with his family at his side. He was born October 18, 1928, in Wapakoneta, the son of the late George H. and Gretchen B. (Rohrbacher) Berlet. On October 31, 1953, he married Ruby I. Hollenbacher, and she survives.
Other survivors include, four children, Barbara (Jim) Kite, Columbus, OH, Bruce E. Berlet, Wapakoneta, Betty (Kent) Wellman, Wapakoneta, Bonnie (Wayne) Greve, Wapakoneta; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Tim Scarborough) Kite, Christopher (Meaghan) Kite, Zach (fiancée- Colleen McKearney) Greve, Erik (Kayla) Greve; three great grandchildren, Joey, Myles, Nicky, and one on the way; and brother, David Berlet, New Knoxville, OH.
In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Hoelscher.
Ned owned and operated Berlet Farm Service. A mechanic and farmer, he was also a talented gunsmith. Ned was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion Post #444, New Knoxville. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Moulton, OH, and a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School where he played on the football team. His other memberships included the Moulton Gun Club, Pheasants Forever, The Ohio State Trap Shooting Assn. , and the Amateur Trap Shooting Assn. Ned was a successful trap shooting champion and was inducted into the Ohio State Trap Shooting Assn. Hall of Fame. He served as a hunter education instructor for youth and served on the Auglaize Co. Election Board. Ned was an enthusiast of Case tractors and English Pointer hunting dogs, a fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and a Red Cross blood donor.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Melodi Hagen officiating. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. The family will receive friends 12-2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Moulton Gun Club.
