Charles Downs Obituary

DELAND, FLA. - Charlie Downs Sr, previously of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Queensbury, N.Y. and Adirondack, N.Y., passed away peacefully at the age of 94.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1932 in Buffalo, N.Y. to the late Gordon and Lillian Downs. He was raised in Flushing, N.Y. and was an avid NY Yankee fan. In 1956 he married the love of his life Margaret (Margie) Doyle in Central Islip, N.Y. After 10 years of raising four children in Lake Grove, N.Y., Charlie and Margie moved upstate to own and operate the Adirondack General Store from 1969 to 1983. Charlie was also employed at Finch Paper LLC for 23 years until his retirement. Charlie and Margie retired to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to enjoy the sun and family.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Gordon Sr. and Lillian; his sister, Elaine Modugno Ketrow and is survived by his brothers, Gordon (Barbara) and Robert (Patricia); and his four children: Lillian (Arthur) Wexler, Charles Jr (Holly), William (Patricia) and Eileen Boulette; eight grandchildren, Nicholas (Stephanie) Wexler, Anthony (Jennifer) Wexler, Arthur (Ashley) Wexler, Michelle (Matthew) Mantooth, Logan Downs, Morigan (Matthew) House, Rick Hooper, Margaret Downs, Elizabeth Creel; and ten great-grandchildren.

His family would like to extend their gratitude to all the professionals at the Brookdale Clare Bridge Memory Facility who aided in his declining health.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Charles will be inurned with Margaret at Pine View Cemetery Queensbury, N.Y.
