David Hodges Obituary

David Lee Hodges, a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 9:49 p.m., while in hospice care in Florida. He was 87 years old.

Born on February 20, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Kenneth C. Hodges and Gwendolyn Alma Shultz Hodges, David grew up on farms in Harwinton, CT, Reading, Mass, and then Hartford, NY.

At the age of 16, he attended a Billy Graham crusade where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior-an encounter that transformed his life and set the course for a lifelong walk with God.

On August 29, 1958, David married the love of his life, Winifred Gail Brown, at Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hudson Falls, New York. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to each other and to Christ. After Winifred's passing, David later remarried Emma Rosemary Hodges in 2010, cherishing companionship in his later years.

David pursued his dream of becoming an airplane pilot and studied aviation, but life led him down other paths of hard work and service. He labored on a farm in Buskirk, New York, then spent years in the Maintenance Department at General Electric. Eager to grow, he returned to school to train as an electrician-a trade he practiced with skill and dedication until retiring and moving to Florida in 2009.

A man of quiet strength and deep joy, David lived his faith every day. He rose early each morning-often around 5 a.m.-to read his Bible and spend time in prayer. He loved to sing hymns and worship his Savior, whether in church or around a campfire. Camping trips with his family were among his greatest delights, creating memories that spanned generations.

David was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Winifred; his older brother, Donald; and his younger sister, Alice.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, his sisters, Beverly Elmer of Torrington, CT and Bonnie Franco of Melbourne, Florida; his brother- and sister-in-law, Dan and Sharon Brown of Hudson Falls, New York; sister-in-law Eva Brown of Hudson Falls; and a large, extended family.

David's greatest legacy is his family: his seven children and their spouses-Cindy and Keith Robison of Watertown, New York; Chris Bromirski of Ocala, Florida; David and Janine Hodges of Hudson Falls, New York; Sue and Joe Lathwood of DeRidder, Louisiana; Jim and Katy Hodges of Hudson Falls, New York; Mike and Sandy Hodges of Peyton, Colorado; and Steve and Michelle Hodges of Warrensburg, New York-along with 25 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved and will carry his joyful spirit forward.

David's ashes will be interred beside his beloved Winifred at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, New York. A family memorial service will be held at that time to celebrate his life and give thanks for the gift he was to so many.

David will be remembered as a man "full of joy"-a faithful servant who dedicated his life to his God and his family. His steady faith, warm smile, and love for singing praises to the Lord touched everyone around him. Though he is now in the presence of his Savior, the light of his life continues to shine through those he loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembering David by sharing a hymn, reading Scripture, or simply spending time with loved ones in gratitude for God's faithfulness.

One thing I will always remember about my grandpa is his happiness and warmth. I can´t recall a time when I saw him without a smile on his face. He was always so welcoming, ready to share a joke just like my dad. I will never forget his laugh. Almost every summer, he would visit, and most of our family would gather at my uncle´s house for a cookout. I am very grateful for those memories. We love you, Grandpa Hodges.

My grandpa will be missed. I love him and cherish the memories from the many years we had together growing up, seeing him every week as we would study the word, worship, and pray together. I remember his joyful singing and his fun loving laugh.
