Frederick Antoine Rainville
Aug 17, 1941 - Mar 25, 2026
ARGYLE - Frederick Antoine Rainville, 84, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side Wednesday night, March 25, 2026. He was born on August 17, 1941, in Fort Edward.
Fred graduated from Queensbury High School class of 1959. Basketball was his favorite extracurricular activity, a sport that he took great pleasure watching his youngest grandson recently take up. He enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduation, proudly serving his country for four years until his honorable discharge in 1963. Touring Japan, the Philippines and other western Pacific ports of call while serving on the USS Brush, Fred made many lifelong friends which he kept in contact with throughout the years. During deployment, he became an "Atomic Veteran" during Operation Dominic near the Christmas Islands.
On October 16, 1965, Fred married the love of his life, Phyllis Beane, in Salem, N.Y. The two spent over 60 wonderful years together before Phyllis' passing in 2025. They worked together raising their four boys: Tony, Tom, Brandon and Joe, who blessed them with many grand and great-grandchildren.
Fred instilled the value of education on his boys, leading by example with earning his associate's degree in criminal justice in 1983. From here he went on to obtain his bachelor's and then master's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1994. He worked for New York State Workers Compensation as an Investigator, retiring in 2004.
Fred was an avid outdoorsman, with hunting, fishing, camping, landscaping, tree cultivation, and more on his list of hobbies. He shared this fondness of the outdoors and nature by teaching stewardship and reverence for nature. He instilled many traditions with his family, encouraging his children and grandchildren to explore and respect the outdoors. Many of these traditions have become his legacy.
Family was a core theme of Fred's life. His children were everything to him. Though his stoic nature did not always make that entirely obvious, his kind and genuine heart showed through in many ways. He made sure his children were his number one priority and encouraged them to explore their own passions and talents. No matter what, he was always there to support them. The lessons he provided were many- to be kind, to pursue education, to be true to yourself, and many more important life lessons.
Fred was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis Rainville; his mother-in-law, Irene Beane; father-in-law, Joseph Beane; his niece, Teri-Jo Rainville Scott; and his cousin and dear friend, Ron Robichaud.
Left to cherish his memory include his sons, Tony Rainville and his wife, Marcia, Brandon Rainville and his wife, Diann, Tom Rainville and his wife, Karen, Joe Rainville and his wife, Cari; his grandchildren, Rebecca Corey and her husband, Ben, Brady Rainville and his wife, Lexi, Josh Rainville, Jake Rainville, Richard Rainville, Quincy Scott, Alexandria Scott, and Tyler Scott; his great-grandchildren, Bentley, Killian, Lochlan, and Leo; his aunt, Dolly Schuff; his cousins, Karen Foro and Donna Shearer and her husband, Bob; many lifelong friends, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
