James Dinwiddie Obituary

James Martin Dinwiddie

July 1, 1944 - March 18, 2026

FORT ANN - James Martin Dinwiddie of Fort Ann, N.Y., passed away at home on March 18, 2026, at 81 years of age, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Jim, as he was known by family and friends, was born to Martin and Edna Dinwiddie in Selkirk, N.Y., on July 1, 1944, and was one of six children having five sisters. Jim was the patriarch of a large family and responsible for a wealth of core memories and life lessons held by many of his children's children. Jim leaves behind the legacy of a hard-working woodsman who was generous and kind.

He spent most of his career either performing woodwork or working in the woods. He worked at Woodbury's for 11 years. He spent over 30 years earning his keep in the woods. Through the years, he built lasting friendships through his work. He was Chuck Freedman's first employee some 40 years ago. He also worked for the town of Fort Ann with Gus Stevens. Both men are good friends who became like family to Jim. There are so many others who were a part of Jim's life. He was known to be always ready to lend a helping hand and would give a person in need the shirt off his back.

Jim enjoyed hunting with many friends, but none more than Leanard Reynolds or "Horn", his hunting buddy of 50 years. He forever cherished a hunting trip he took with his son Jim and Horn in Colorado back in 1999.

He is survived by his loving wife and lifelong partner, Roberta. They met in Clinton, N.Y., and he and Bunny, as he called her, have been married a wonderful 63 years. He loved to sit on his front porch, enjoying time with family and the company of Bunny and Cooper, their loyal golden retriever. He leaves behind son, Jim Dinwiddie and his wife Melanie; daughter, Lori Winchell (her husband Bruce recently passed away), daughter, Sue Gosselin and her husband, Mike, who was by his side during every one of his treatments. He also leaves eight Grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren

Jim was predeceased by his sisters, Ann and Donna; and leaves behind his sisters, Georgia, Carolyn, and Carrie.

Today we all mourn the loss of a man that meant so much to so many. We take comfort that Jim's spirit is now free and looks over us as his teachings and memories continue to enrich our lives.
