Brian Leffel Obituary

Brian Layne Leffel was born to Layne and Helen (Maestas) Leffel on April 1, 1979 in Cortez, Colo. Brian leaves behind his parents, Layne and Helen Leffel; his sister, Denise Sanchez her husband, Shane and their daughter, Sam; and his two very much loved dogs, Simba and MoNo. Also surviving Brian are his two grandmothers, Fern Maestas of Cortez, and Ella Leffel of Dove Creek, Colo.; and by numerous aunts, nieces and cousins.

Brian grew up in Cortez and attended Kemper Elementary School, Cortez Middle School and graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School. He then went on to attend Ft. Lewis College in Durango. Brian resided in Las Vegas, Nev. prior to moving to Dallas, Tex. He worked as a Financial Advisor for Citi Corp Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Dallas.

Brian had a great love for dogs. His first dog was Magnus, a pure bred Shiba Inu. After the death of Magnus he got another puppy he named Simba and had recently gotten MoNo, both Shiba Inus. Brian loved walking his dogs, training them to jump over pillars and to be highly respected. He loved life, reached high to achieve his goals and his accomplishments were many.

Having shared many quotes with us a favorite comes to mind that pertains to his dad:

I have traded thoughts with brilliant men.

I have shared the light with famous men.

I have dined at the table of wealthy men.

I have a father who is above all these men.

Brian has gone home to join his two grandfathers, Fred Maestas and Eldon Leffel; his two cousins, Kip Logan and Vaughn Houghland.

A memorial services will be held at Ertel Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will take place at the Cortez Cemetery following the memorial services.

The following quote is in tribute to Brian:

"He had the heart of a lion, the skin of a rhino, and now the soul of an angel"

To the Leffel Family we extend our heartfelt condolences for your loss. We have very fond memories of Brian from his high school years. Brian spent many hours at our home with Micah. We always could hear the boys laughing as they chatted about their day's events or busy planning their next 'big' activity. The louder and longer the laughter the more suspicious Mike and I would become that possibly we should check on the situation. I know how much Micah respected Brian and deeply cherished their friendship. May all your memories cushion your loss at this time and provide joy as you celebrate his life.

Our deepest condolences and prayers to the Leffel family. We are so shocked and saddened to learn of this tragic news. We enjoyed chatting with Brian at the dog parks our buildings shared. He was so proud of his latest addition to the family, little Mono, and so happy that Simba stepped up to play the role of big brother. These sweet dogs were an immense source of joy, and he was completely devoted. He was such a kind person and will truly be missed in the neighborhood. God bless.
