Cheryl McCutcheon Obituary
Cheryl Ann Greenlee was born on August 14, 1930, to Howard and Gailin Greenlee in a homestead cabin located in the Northwest quadrant of the intersection of MCR 21 and P. Attending at her birth were her maternal grandmother, Edna Longenbaugh and a great aunt, Kitty Winburn. Mom would go on to live just a month short of her 95th birthday, when she died in the early morning hours of July 31, 2025. She passed at home a short five miles from where she was born, surrounded by a hairball cat named "Classy" and her two sons, Dick and Rick. She died as most of us would prefer, quietly at sleep.
Mom was a wonderful mother and kept us well fed, clean and obedient. She would put down quilts on the floor of our Dolores home on Friday nights, make a batch of "Rice Crispy Treats" and let us stay up as late as we wanted, watching old "Tarzan" movies. Cheri and Rick would seldom make it past 11:00PM, but big brother Dick would stay awake to watch "Friday Night Frights" and would be found soundly sleeping on the living room floor as our father left for work early the next morning.
On trips to Cortez, mom would load us up in the ugliest car in the world and "head to town". At the top of Sawmill Hill, we would make her 'gun it' and crest the hill at top speed; probably 50MPG, just to see how far we could coast in neutral. We would get to P Road fairly easily, but gravity gave out on us just after N Road. Funny thing is, she got into it as much as we did.
Cheryl was married four times and outlived all her husbands. Richard C. Fryhover was born to Richard Fryhover and our mom early in their marriage. They would divorce and Cheryl would marry Ronald "Brue" Hover a few years later. To this union, Ricky Dean Hover and Cheri Gay Hover were born. Cheryl would marry two more times and would live happily for many years, in later life, married to the man she most admired, G.W. McCutcheon. G.W. would precede her in death as did both her parents and her daughter, Cheri Gay and a young grandson, Farrin Robbins. She is survived by her sons Richard Fryhover (Susan) and Ricky Dean Hover (Toni); her brother Garth Greenlee; six grandchildren; a whole gaggle of great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Mom is going to be sorely missed but our parting was well made. If we do see each other again, then we'll smile and maybe have a few "Rice Crispy Treats". God speed, Mom!
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on August 22, at the Cortez Cemetery.
