Clifton Fosnot Obituary
Clifton Leon Fosnot passed away peacefully at his home in Cahone, Colorado on the evening of January 18th 2023 at the age of 86. He was born August 15th 1936 in Cahone, CO to Herschel and Eugenia Fosnot. Clifton attended school in Cahone and Dove Creek, graduating in 1955. He met then wed Virginia Searcy in 1958, however, they later divorced. To this union two children were born: Lisa and Allen.
When called upon, he proudly served his country in the United States Army before returning home to his family. In Cahone, he began dry-land farming pinto beans, wheat, and conifer trees in the early 1960s, continuing until retirement at age 75. Clifton was a third-generation farmer on both his mother's and father's side of the family. He cultivated and harvested from his land for over 50 years, 40 of which were in partnership with his brother-in-law Frankie Knuckles.
In 1988 he married the love of his life, Delores (Dee) Bankert. The two of them celebrated their 34th anniversary on November 5th 2022. The families quickly integrated together, and it became apparent that their union was that of more than just the two of them.
Clifton and Dee were faithfully one another's rock and best friend. They celebrated many years together, taking countless mountain drives, picnics by the river, and homemade family dinners. Clifton passionately enjoyed a few hobbies. For much of his life, he extensively collected and refurbished Colorado license plates. Being a true Chevrolet man at heart, he painstakingly restored three antique automobiles. In his later years, he became an avid reader of southwestern history.
Though he had much to be proud of, Clifton remained humble and kind. Always willing to help someone in need; he was reliable and steadfast. He was the kind of man many were honored to call Dad, Repaw, Grandpa, Grafumpkin, Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Husband, and Friend.
He is preceded in death by his father Herschel Fosnot, mother Eugenia (Johnson) Fosnot, brother Delbert Fosnot, and stepdaughter Janice Bankert.

He appreciated the good times, while persevering through droughts and hardships with dignity, wisdom, and a great sense of humor. Clifton was a cherished family man, loyal friend, and dedicated farmer. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Services were held in January.
