Dana Norton Obituary

Dana Lorean Norton was born in Dallas, TX on July 11, 1920 to Omar and Ruby (Ashworth) Wells. She passed away on January 29, 2017 at Vista Mesa Assisted Living in Cortez, Colorado at the age of 96.

Dave came with her family to Ackmen, CO (later Pleasant View) in 1934 and lived there for the next 65 years. In 1939 she married her best friend and love of her life, Irvie Norton, on Jan. 2, 1939 in Yuma, AZ. They had 57 wonderful years together before he passed away in 1996. Dana continued to live on the farm another 10 years. She moved from her beloved farm at Pleasant View to Cortez in 2006.

Dana was preceded in death by her parents Omar and Ruby, her beloved husband, and an infant son Stephen. Also preceding her were three brothers, Donald, Dorrell and Eldon Wells, and her sister Meta Livingston.

Surviving Dana is her daughter Pat of Cortez, two grandsons Ron Fryhover (Jan) of Dove Creek, CO; Don Fryhover (Stephanie) of Castle Rock, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Nick Fryhover. She is also survived by her sister Melba Livingston of Hailey, ID and many nieces and nephews.

Dana loved to bake, paint and sew and her very favorite thing was reading. She loved the farm; she packed many lunches, drove the wheat truck and kept the books. She always grew a huge garden and canned and froze everything available. She could make Irvie a chocolate cake with her eyes closed!

Services were held at Ertel Funeral Home in Cortez on Fri., Feb. 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. followed by graveside services at Sylvan Cemetery west of Pleasant View. A celebration of life dinner was held by the Rainbelt Ladies Club (of which Dana was a charter member) at the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department following the services.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Montezuma County, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, CO 81321.
