David Antes Obituary

Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident David Lee Antes (also known as Dave, Big Dave, Eskimo Dave, Papa and Dad) was held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the First Assembly of God Church, 120 S. Linden Street, Cortez.

Dave was born the son of Samuel S. Antes and Lorena Catherine (DuVall) Antes on Oct. 24, 1934 in Cortez. He peacefully passed away after a long illness at Mercy Medical Center in Durango on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at the age of 78.

As a young man, Dave was a youth Evangelist minister with his father Samuel. They shared the word of the Lord throughout Colorado and many other states. Family and music were Dave's life. He traveled to many places with his own band and spent many happy days in Alaska playing music and fishing. Dave helped many people with his words of wisdom and always had a story to tell. He moved back to Cortez in 2000 where he made his home until he went to be with the Lord.

Surviving David are his Beloved Barbara; his children, Kathy June (Antes) DeHaven and husband, Wade, David A. Sauber, Cynthia (Sauber) Wohler and husband, Bill, Curtis Hatcher, and Mark Kiesling; his grandchildren, Melissa Hernandez, Valerie (Sauber) Fears, Nicholas Wohler, Sabrina Wohler, Kayla (DeHaven) Welsh, Jeremiah DeHaven and Lynsey DeHaven; and his great-grandchildren, Gracie, Christian, Kaylee, Nalycia, Caleb and Autumn. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; and by his son, David Lee Antes II (Tiger).
