Dion Wells Obituary

Dion Quinn Wells passed away on February 10, 2025, at his home in Florence, OR, with his family.

Dion was born on October 9, 1968, in Cortez, CO, to Glenn and Betty (Aulston) Wells. He grew up on a farm in Cortez and had numerous animals to take care of. Dion attended most of his school years in Cortez and was active in FFA. He attended school at East Nicolaus High School in California for two years and was voted State FFA President his junior year, then returned to Cortez for his senior year and graduated from MCHS. Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. After basic training, he was stationed in Seattle, WA, and was assigned to the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

After the Navy, he married Alexis Johnson and they lived in Ft. Collins, CO, until Alexis graduated from college. Dion worked for Clever Electric there as an apprentice electrician. They moved back to Cortez, where he worked for Nice Electric for several years. He then went to work on the North Slope in Alaska as a Master Electrician. To save travel time, they moved to Florence, OR, and purchased a home which he dearly loved. After the North Slope, he went to work for Lincoln County, Oregon, as a County Electrical Inspector.

He purchased a large sailboat and began remodeling it over the next 10 years, with the goal that when he retired, they would spend their time sailing around the world. At 52, he decided to take sailing lessons and received his certificate.

Dion was extremely talented and was a self-taught flintknapper, blacksmith, and woodworker. He made numerous beautiful creations.

He enjoyed the outdoors with activities like camping, fishing, hunting, archery, kayaking, rappelling, treasure hunting, and running in competitive events every weekend and a marathon every chance he got. He loved a challenge.

He deeply loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.

Dion is preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Aulston) Wells.

He is survived by his wife, Alexis (Johnson) Wells; son, Jesse Wells; daughter, Katelyn Wells and husband Brian Schofield; father, Glenn (Linda) Wells, brother, Shawn and Kathy (Baskett) Wells; their two sons, Cody (Kinsey) and Dillon (Danielle) Wells, and their families, and his in-laws Jimmy and Glordine Johnson, brother-in-law Larry (Kim) Johnson; along with other nephews and nieces.

Dion will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Arriola Community Center on July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

All are invited to attend to help celebrate his life and to share stories.
