Donald Boston Obituary

Don Boston, 86, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014, after many visits with his family at Olivia White Hospice House. Don had faced health issues since 2001. He was born in Oplin, Texas, and raised by grandparents John and Mary Elizabeth Boston; uncles and aunts, R. B. and Hattie Boston; Charles and Ola Varner all from Oplin, Texas.

Don was in the Air Force from 1945 to 1948, stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, as a sergeant of the 3546th Maintenance Squadron. He graduated from high school in Texas as the salutorian in 1945 and from Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University) in 1951 with a degree in journalism. He married Doris Warren Jan. 12, 1952. His career started as a journalist/sports reporter for the Stillwater News Press in Port Arthur, Texas, and finally at the Pecos News, where he joined Jack Hawkins in news and broadcasting. His radio career started at Big Lake, Texas (KBLT), as well as a reporter for the San Angelo (Texas) News. His broadcasting career continued in Taos, N.M. (KKIT) and Cortez, Colo. (KVFC). In 1972, Don and his family moved to Page, Ariz., where he worked with Dale and Willa-Don Holmes at KPGE. In 1977, he bought the True Value Hardware Store, now owned by his sons.

Don had strong work ethics, but he found time to enjoy life with friends and family. He loved sports and most of his broadcasting was around sporting events. He loved playing and watching golf. He fished and hunted. He loved to watch old westerns.

Don and Doris had five children, Donna, Daniel, David, Douglas and Diann, and after 62 years of marriage and five children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Doris; and following family:

Daughter Donna and husband Mark Price and grandchildren Dana, and Marcus and great-grandchildren Shea and Braden.

Son Daniel and wife Judy Boston; grandchildren Bryan and Robert;step-granddaughters Deanne and Carrie; and great-grandchildren Heather, Tyler, Amber and Cody.

Son David and wife Christina Boston; grandchildren Dustin and Faressa; and great-grandchildren Madeline, Christian, Lindy, Jameson, Ida and Joey Jr.

Son Douglas and wife Jody Boston; grandchildren Douglas Jr. and Bridgette; and great-grandchildren Katrina, Sean, Julian, and Corinne.

Daughter Diann and Rudy Fornero; grandchildren Cynthia, Micheal, Sarah, Sam, Yael, and Donald; and great-grandchildren Matthew, Jaydin, Peyton, Taos and Zoey.

Don was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.

A memorial service will be June 21 at 4 p.m. at Faith Bible Chapel, at 551 San Francisco Road in Page, Ariz.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Donald Boston Coconino Community College Scholarship Fund, 2800 S. Lone Tree Road, Flagstaff, AZ, 86005. This fund will contribute to the first two years of study for a Page journalism/communications student.
