June was a never-ending source local historical information, and she and I became friends, when she came to visit my studio, "The Apple Cottage"(built on property previously owned by her family). She and I visited for hours about the history of the Lake Vista area, and she donated photos which became a part of my cookbook, containing local history and recipes of descendants of homesteaders. The heirloom apple orchard planted in 1903 on the property, and through June's connections in the community, was eventually recreated with grafts by Jude Schuenemeyer & friends, on the field south of Cortez Middleschool. She continued to encourage my interest in our own family history in the area, as well. I will miss her very much. My deepest condolences to her family. She has left a great legacy.
