Faye Stevenson Obituary
Faye Lorene Stevenson went to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2011. She left her home in Cortez by the wings of an angel.
Her life began on May 25, 1934, in Farmington, N.M., and soon after, her family moved to Cortez. When Faye reached the age of 8, the family packed up and left by horse and wagon to settle in Nampa, Idaho. She grew up there, and met her husband, Clyde Collins. They soon moved to the Bay area in California, and had three children: Jerry, Jimmy, and Deborah. In 1958, she and the kids packed up and moved to Mancos. In 1963 she married Thomas Stevenson, and had two children, Joe and Mike.
Faye was a hard worker. She was best known for managing the gas station at Mudd Creek. She can also be remembered from working at the Mancos Valley Bank, and even experienced a robbery while working there. She moved on to become a teacher's aide at Mancos Elementary School. Faye retired from the Point Look Out, also known as Hallerville, near Mesa Verde. Upon retiring, she married her lifelong friend, Frank DeVore. They spent several years traveling and enjoying their golden years.
Faye loved listening to country music and she watched every western movie ever made at least 20 times. She loved horseback riding, and was the leader of the Blazing Saddles 4-H Club. She always enjoyed participating in the Mancos Days celebrations. Her children, grandchildren, and great friends were the most important part of her life.
Faye is survived by her brother, Jim Phillips of Redmond, Ore.; her children, Jimmy Collins and wife Brenda of Phoenix, Ariz., Deborah Huskey and husband Jerry of Cortez, Joe Stevenson of Mancos, and Mike Stevenson, also of Mancos. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Mildred (Harriet Smith) Phillips, ten siblings, son Jerry Collins, husband Tom Stevenson, and husband Frank DeVore.
She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
