Frank Pyle Obituary

Frank Lockett Pyle left us January 8, 2023, from the Hospice of the Valley's Gardiner Home in Phoenix, Arizona. Frank was the oldest son of Warren and Charlotte (Chadwick) Pyle. He was born in the Johnson Hospital in Cortez, Colorado on March 3, 1938. Frank graduated from St. John's Military School in Salina, Kansas.

Frank loved telling stories of Montezuma County history as well as his own adventures. The Pyle and Lockett families came to Dolores in the 1880's. His family was in the trading post business and were cattle ranchers. His first job was that of a cowboy. He became a cattle truck driver in his early years and later became a Teamster. He retired with 3 million accident-free miles in 2000.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was instrumental in reestablishing the Montezuma Historical Society and was their past president.

Frank married Sandra Kyle in Durango 43 years ago. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Lou Ann Angel of Sahuarita, AZ; and stepdaughters, Lisa (Garth) Glasco of Durango and Quita (Mark) Endicott of Eugene, OR. They have 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Dona Cady of Kirkland, NM and Myrna Loveless of Rogers, AR; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Kyle of Grand Junction; sister-in-law Mari Martin of Denver and brother-in-law, Jim Kyle of Grand Junction; along with his nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends all of whom he was quite fond. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lew Ray and his son Carroll.

A celebration of Frank's life will be held when the weather is warmer.
