George Livingston Obituary

George Edward Livingston passed in peace on April 16, 2015 in Colorado Springs, CO.

George was born on 11/22/1927 in Sayre, OK to Fred Parker Livingston Jr. and Emma Nana (Harrison) Livingston.

He graduated from Sayre High School in 1947 and while in high school he worked at the local movie theater as a projectionist. After graduation he attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Majoring in English.

George enlisted in the US Navy on 1/28/1946 and served as an Aviation Metalsmith Third Class until 11/28/1947 in San Diego, CA. He received a World War II Victory Medal during that enlistment. While visiting friends and relatives in the Cortez area, he met and married Twila Doreen Cox on 12/17/1949.

George re-enlisted in the US Navy on 11/27/1950 to serve during the Korean Conflict until 3/26/1952. He served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd class at the Alameda Naval Air Station, California. After his service, the family moved to the Los Angeles area where George worked as an Aviation Draftsman for North American Aviation. The family then moved back to the Cortez area in 1957.

While raising their family of 3 daughters, George and T Doreen owned the El Paso/Shell gas station on East Main St. in partnership with his in laws, Hurschel and Chloris Coppinger, a Goodyear store also on East Main Street and worked as a petroleum salesman throughout southwest Colorado for many years. George was an active member and leader of the local chapters of the Civil Air Patrol and the American Legion.

George loved providing guidance and support of his family with multiple activities such as school sports, gymkhana, model airplanes, various arts and crafts, church activities and big family barbecues and holiday dinners

George is survived by three daughters, Denise Ann Livingston, Deena Marie Mills and husband Dean, and Georjean E. Livingston and husband Mike Lewis all of the Colorado Springs area; granddaughters Heather Caporiccio and husband, Ronald Anderson of Yuba City, CA, Arianne Harris and husband, Clay of Evergreen CO, Jessica Vandagriff and husband, Kevin of Charleston, S.C., Melissa Mills of Charleston, S.C. and Ashley Jackson Novander and husband, Ken Novander of Denver; grandsons, Justin Welmon and wife, Valerie of Ft. Worth, Zachary Mills and wife, Nadia of Seattle, Joshua Chambers-Mills and wife, Kaitlin of Beale AFB CA, Andrew Jackson of Denver, and Alexander Jackson of Colo Spgs, great grandson Spencer Michael Vandagriff of Charleston, and great-granddaughter Graceyn Eliana Mills of Seattle and Charlotte Mae Chambers-Mills of Beale AFB and sisters, Louise Evans of Hobart, OK, Betty Ann Burkhart of Casper WY, and Jeanette Pardee of Orange County, CA. Preceding George in death is his wife, Twila Doreen Livingston and their infant son, Douglas, Doreen's parents Tom and Maude Cox, his parents Fred and Nana Livingston, and his older brother Fred Parker Livingston III.

Graveside services will be held at the Cortez Cemetery on Sat, May 2 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Civil Air Patrol Foundation and "earmarked" for the Mesa Verde Cadet Squadron. I worked with George years ago & every time he saw me he would ask about my family. George will be dearly missed. He was a very good friend.
