Jack Wilbur Risenhoover was born July 14, 1935, in Cahone and passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. He was born to George Wesley Risenhoover and Frances Imogene (Hough) Risenhoover. He was born in an Anasazi kiva on the family farm that his father had dug out and used as a homestead while the family home was being built. The homestead that his grandfather and father built has stood for six generations, and it is still standing. It was always special for Jack to make frequent trips into the area and remember his childhood where he grew up working on the family farms.
Jack had three older brothers, Walter, Melvin and George and four younger sisters Florence, Jane, Joan and Shirley. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter and George; and sisters Joan and Shirley.
Jack was married to his loving wife, Jeanette (Barnett) Risenhoover on Dec. 24, 1954. They were married for nearly 60 years in which they raised a family with love and affection. They were blessed with three daughters, Connie, Cheryl and Jana DeAnn. They were then blessed with six grandsons and two granddaughters and eleven great-grandchildren.
Jack was truly a "Jack of all trades." They must have named the term after him. He was a farmer, honored veteran, worked in a uranium mill, mechanic, carpenter, welder, milkman, rock crusher, city worker, and owned his own steam-cleaning business for the oilfield. The oilfield was a special occupation for him. He worked his way from a floorhand to the tool pusher position.
Jack touched many lives, and anyone that knew him was blessed. More people than just his family knew him as dad or grandpa. Jack always had a wink and a smile for you. Jack enjoyed having his family around. We all enjoyed hearing the stories he had told before; we were still eager to hear them again.
Jack is survived by his loving and caring wife, Jeanette; his daughters, Connie Risenhoover and companion, Bill, Cheryl Rychtarik and husband, Gary, Jana DeAnn Carter and husband, Barney; and by Justin, Lura, Jonathan and Melinda Moss, Wayne Englehart, Christina Caillier and Ariel, Alyssa and Aliyah Moss, Wendell, Shannon, Alec, Heath and Hunter Englehart, Kristi and ZAH'eed Carter and Croix Knauss, Cinda, Cory and Tommy Tunnell, Joshua Carter, Ryan Englehart and fiancée Kelsey Partington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his beloved grandson, Gaylon Moss
