James Robison Obituary

James Truman Robison was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Friendship, Tenn., the son of Leonard and Luna (Smith) Robison. James passed away Aug. 3, 2011, at his Cortez home at the age of 88.

Jim proudly served his country from 1942 to 1946. He was inducted and honorably discharged from Indianapolis, Ind., as a technician 5. He was stationed in Virginia, Georgia, Florida, and overseas in France and Germany with the 17th Airborne Division 5-13 Parachute Infantry Division. Jim earned two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. In 1946 he became a Civil Air Patrol commander in Gary Ind., recruiting and training cadets to perform search and rescue for lost aircraft. He retired in 1965 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Jim spent the first years of his life on the farm in Tennessee, then moved to Indiana. It was during these years that Jim married Dorothy Virginia Anderson on Sept. 22, 1951, in Crown Point, Ind. Later on they moved to Minnesota and Iowa, and to Boulder, Colo., and in 1977 came to live in Cortez.

Jim was employed in automobile sales for 58 years, owning Orchard Sales in Cortez from 1977 until his retirement in 2004. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason; past president of the Board of Aviation in Gary, Ind.; and a member of the Kiwanis Club in Boulder. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, especially for walleye and northern pike.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Luna Robison; his loving wife, Dorothy Robison, of 57 years until her passing in January of 2009; his sister, Ora Grant; and his brothers, Albert Robison, Samuel Robison, and Murry Glen Robison.

Surviving Jim are his daughters, Marcia Robison of Cortez, and Dale V. Scohy of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; his granddaughter, Susan Scohy, his grandson, Gene (and Chris) Scohy and his great-granddaughter, Sorina Scohy, all of Westminster, Colo.

No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim's honor can be made to the Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, CO 81321.

Arrangements are under Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Cortez, CO.
